Getting Ready for your Maternity Session

Maternity portraits are about documenting the transformation of your body and the magic of creating new life.

Maternity sessions are usually best photographed around seven months, when your belly is beautifully pronounced but you are still comfortable enough to move, pose, and enjoy the experience.

What to Wear

Bring outfits that make you feel comfortable, beautiful, and like yourself. Flowing dresses, fitted dresses, bodysuits, robes, simple fabrics, or something more minimal can all photograph beautifully. Nude undergarments are strongly recommended because they work best under lighter fabrics and fitted maternity pieces.

Client Closet

I also have a small selection of maternity dresses and luxury robes available for you to use. Think of these as added styling options, so please bring your own outfits as well.

Artistic Nude Maternity

Full nudity is welcome and can be photographed in a tasteful, fine-art style.

Using dramatic lighting, shadow, and careful posing, we can create portraits that celebrate the strength, form, and beauty of the female body in creation.

Bringing Your Significant Other

Your significant other is welcome to join you for part of the session. For a clean, timeless look, I recommend they wear all black or all white so the focus stays on you, your connection, and the pregnancy.

Boutique Photography is a small, intimate studio and is not designed for full family photography, so maternity sessions are best kept to you and your significant other.

Personal Details

You are welcome to bring meaningful items such as baby shoes, ultrasound photos, a name sign, or another small keepsake connected to your pregnancy.

Hair & Makeup

Please arrive camera-ready, with your hair and makeup already finished before your scheduled session time.

If you would like professional beauty services beforehand, a salon is conveniently located downstairs from the studio.

Before You Arrive

Try your outfits on ahead of time and have your bag packed the day before.

The studio is located up a flight of stairs. You are absolutely welcome to bring someone with you to help carry your things upstairs and get you comfortably settled before your session.

Eat something, drink water, and give yourself plenty of time so you do not feel rushed.  You're welcome to bring a light snack and something to drink with you as well.

You do not need to know how to pose. I will guide you through movement, angles, and positioning so we can beautifully document this extraordinary chapter of your life.
